Quick verdict

HeyGen Pick HeyGen if you produce branded presenter videos at scale — course lessons, explainers and localised versions with voice cloning and lip-sync translation.

D-ID Pick D-ID if you want talking-head video from a photo or script at a much lower entry price, or real-time conversational agents and an API to embed.

HeyGen — FAQ

Can HeyGen translate existing videos?

Yes. The official site describes uploading a file or pasting a YouTube link, translating the speech and using voice preservation with lip synchronization for the translated version.

What does the Free plan include?

The fetched pricing page lists three watermarked videos per month, each up to one minute. Higher plans increase generation capacity and add watermark removal or higher-resolution exports.

Can I create an avatar of myself?

Yes. HeyGen supports custom video avatars using your likeness and voice. Its official site says every custom avatar requires on-camera identity verification from the person being depicted.

D-ID — FAQ

Is there a free D-ID plan?

No ongoing free plan. There is a 14-day trial with 3 minutes of usage, and trial videos carry a full-screen watermark under a personal-use licence.

Do D-ID credits roll over?

No. Minutes are renewed each month and unused minutes become void. Video length is charged in 15-second increments, rounded up, so a 70-second video bills as 75 seconds.

Can I use D-ID videos commercially?

Only from the Pro plan up. Lite is personal use only and carries a D-ID logo watermark; Pro and Advanced carry a generic AI watermark, and Advanced lets you replace it with your own logo.

How long can one video be?

Videos made in the Studio or through the API are limited to 5 minutes. Translated videos also run to 5 minutes on Lite, Pro and Advanced, and up to 30 minutes on Enterprise.
