Is Character.AI free?

Yes. Messaging is unlimited on the free plan, which shows ads and can enter slow mode at peak times. The paid (c.ai) lite and c.ai+ plans remove most limits, cut or remove ads and unlock premium chat styles.

Can anyone under 18 use Character.AI?

No. Since 25 November 2025, open-ended chat with characters has been restricted to users aged 18 and over, following changes the company announced in October 2025.

Do characters remember earlier conversations?

Partly. Every plan has memory, and you can pin up to 15 messages free or 30 on paid plans; c.ai+ adds the full memory suite and an advanced Lorebook for detailed story facts.

Can I make my own character?

Yes. Creation is free: set a name, greeting, description and voice, choose public or private visibility, and anyone can then chat with public characters.
