Partly. You can remove backgrounds and download preview-resolution results for free, as often as you like. Full-resolution downloads cost credits — a subscription starts at $9 a month for 40 credits, and one credit covers one image.

How much does one full-resolution image cost?

One credit. On the entry subscription that works out to about $0.23 per image ($9 for 40 credits), falling toward $0.18 at the 500-credit tier; pay-as-you-go packs start at $3 for 3 credits and cost more per image.

Is remove.bg shutting down?

Yes. Canva is retiring the standalone service on 1 December 2026: the website, self-service API and plugins stop, subscriptions end automatically and remaining credits expire. Web users are directed to Canva and API users to the Leonardo.Ai API.

Can I use remove.bg in my own software?

Yes. remove.bg offers an API plus a Photoshop plugin, desktop apps and integrations for tools like WooCommerce and Figma, which is how most high-volume users run it. Paid plans include API access.

remove.bg 是什么？

remove.bg does exactly one thing: upload a photo and it hands back the same image with the background cut out, as a transparent PNG, in a few seconds. The service was built by Kaleido, the Austrian AI company now owned by Canva, and it defined automated background removal — its models are trained on people, products, cars and animals, and it handles hair and fur edges that used to need manual masking. Preview-resolution downloads are free; full-resolution results are sold by the credit, one credit per image.

Most serious use runs through the API, the Photoshop plugin and e-commerce integrations rather than the website: marketplace sellers, photo studios and marketing teams removing backgrounds from thousands of product shots. Paid tiers unlock full camera resolution, batch processing and higher API volumes. One deadline hangs over the service, though: Canva is retiring the standalone remove.bg site on 1 December 2026, directing web users to Canva and API customers to Leonardo.Ai, and unused credits expire at the shutdown — so it is now a tool to migrate from, not build on.
